A great post. I love my firefox (and now Chrome) add-ons and could not be without them.

I recommend Gimp (www.gimp.org) as a free alternative to Photoshop. It is very good but if you can fork out for Photoshop then I would go for that option.

Warmest regards,

Just stumbled across your site and I like it! I've been designing for a while now, but for some reason I still feel like I'm new at...probably because technology keeps changing so fast...so I'm always looking for great tips and ideas. Thanks!

All excellent points. I think point 8 is important, but I disagree that a developer should fork out $100s or $1000s for Photoshop just to edit a button. Photo.Net is equally good at this and is free. I would rather say: use the right tool for the job.

As for point 9: very true: I'd better get back to work!

Being honest about time is especially important. Over and over I see people who make the mistake of saying it takes 5 minutes.

PS: I could not input text into the name, mail and website fields using safari 4.0.4. You might want to check that out.

Good stuff. It's so easy to allow yourself to become unorganized as a freelance developer but the time put in saves time in the as I've found.

Thanx Gary for a great reminder. I would like to point out another thing most programmers forget: Plan your moves! Take your time to go through the list of tasks you need to accomplish in order to finish a project. Try and find potential problems before you move into dev stage. If not doing so you may end up with a huge amount of time wasted on a thing that just wouldn't work that way.
